I first heard about a book called 'The Shack'<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=3D00=
1cD1oZKl8tkr0XpdVq_rSjZfrYzIAZPILOcdc4OwffwlS8SWX7GFDNY05hn4ERvtJn5pnXtEnGp=
fWPZBSoLSobAiIoa8ETOEdlLYCvbb5DN8TRJTHDPSzpg=3D=3D> from my good friend Phi=
l Costar. Within a matter of weeks two people had told me that I just had t=
o read 'The Shack'. It was something I resisted for a while. You see, I do =
a lot of reading but I don't read fiction. I used to read a lot of fiction =
books when I was growing up. I can still remember staying up all night shiv=
ering with excitement while I read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story about She=
rlock Holmes, 'Hound of the Baskervilles'. However I haven't read a fiction=
novel for over two decades now.

However we shouldn't let tradition stop us from doing something different. =
So I started on the journey of discovery. The back cover of 'The Shack' sum=
s up the story well.

Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during=
a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is=
found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years late=
r in the midst of his 'Great Sadness', Mack receives a suspicious note, app=
arently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon a=
nd walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change M=
ack's world forever.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant 'The Shack'=
wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled wi=
th unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps tr=
ansform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read th=
is book!

That last line is quite true. You will want everyone you know to read this =
book. I ordered ten copies to give away to friends, I was so profoundly mov=
ed.

What really got to me was the deeply moving fatherhood theme running throug=
h the book. From that point alone it is a book worth reading.

I am not the only person saying that. The Shack has already sold 3.6 millio=
n copies worldwide. It was recently released in Brazil, August 15, and sold=
out three consecutive print runs and went to the top. The publishers are a=
mazed. It has been number one on the New York Times Best Seller List for 1=
7 consecutive weeks and it has been number one on Amazon. Currently it is a=
number three with 1380 customer reviews<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=3D001cD1oZ=

Single Dads
Single Dads and Expectations
by Ken Canfield[http://origin.ih.constantcontact.com/fs007/1101938345415/im=
g/103.jpg?a=3D1102240955434]

If you're a recently divorced dad, be prepared to see a side of your kids y=
ou've never seen before. Kids who have been through a divorce often act in =
certain ways. As a single dad, you need to know what to watch for-and how t=
o respond.

Here are some common things to look for, from Ken Parker and Van Jones in t=
heir book, Every Other Weekend.
First, kids sometimes take advantage of two different sets of house rules. =
"Mom lets me do this at her house!" They may be telling the truth, or pulli=
ng a scam. The best thing you can do is to help them understand that you're=
going to stand behind your rules-and the values they represent. Express co=
nfidence that they can adjust when they're staying with you.

Second, your child may purposefully break your rules. Correct her in love, =
but also use the opportunity. She could be expressing anger. Or she maybe t=
esting your love and limits. In either case, be firm but gentle. Don't resp=
ond in anger, instead talk with her about the way she's adjusting, what she=
's going through, and how you can help. Just listening may be all she reall=
y needs.
The third typical response is for a child to complain about someone at the =
other household-his mother or stepfather. You need to be very discerning he=
re.

On the one hand, you're probably only hearing one side of the story. You co=
uld try calling his mother-not to make accusations, but simply to communica=
te what you've heard and gather facts. Often, getting the rest of the story=
will give you a better appreciation for her point of view, and you'll be a=
ble to back up her actions.

On the other hand, what if your child has a legitimate concern? That phone =
call to Mom could betray his trust, and could get him into trouble at home.

These situations illustrate the importance of communicating with your child=
. Does he need you to act on his behalf and look into the situation? Or doe=
s he simply need someone to talk to?

For all dads, regular healthy communication will build a trust level that's=
going to come in handy when stresses and crises come along. For divorced d=
ads, you've got to work at it twice as hard in half the time. May God bless=
 you.

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

I don't know when the phrase "Disneyland Dad" was coined, but I saw one the=
 other night.

My husband and I were at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marsha=
ll Airport to meet a flight. While we waited at the baggage claim area, a f=
light from Orlando, Fla., arrived.

After a short while, a girl, about 14, sat next to me on a bench. She pulle=
d out her cell phone and proceeded to offer an instant snapshot of a child'=
s life after the divorce of her parents.

"Mom, I do not want to spend the night with Dad," Daughter said. "Please ca=
n't I come home? I just spent a week with him in Orlando, and that was enou=
gh."

I, of course, couldn't hear what the mother was saying, but it was clear sh=
e was in no mood to drive to BWI at 11:30 at night to pick up her teenager.

But Daughter pressed on. "Please come get me. He's standing over there, tex=
ting someone. Probably Pam," she said, needling her mom.

Moreover, Daughter explained in increasingly righteous tones that if she ha=
d to go home with her father tonight and went home to her mother the next d=
ay, then just a few days later, she would "have to go back to Dad's, becaus=
e it's his weekend."

"This is just so unfair," she said.

Her conversation reminded me of a book written a few years ago by a now-adu=
lt child of divorce named Elizabeth Marquardt.

"Kicked back and forth like a football" could be a metaphor for a child's l=
ife after divorce, Mrs. Marquardt wrote in "Between Two Worlds: The Inner L=
ives of Children of Divorce."

As a child, Mrs. Marquardt once suggested to her father that maybe she, too=
, was a football. In response, her father had grown angry, and "he assured =
me sternly that this image did not apply to me. He and my mother loved me, =
he said."

And it was true, Mrs. Marquardt wrote, her parents did not kick her. They h=
ugged her passionately before they passed her to each other.

"Still, there was something about that football," she wrote. "I could see i=
t spinning in its arc, flying freely, even beautifully, from the one who la=
unched it to the one who caught it. But ... it seemed almost too high, too =
free; it belonged neither to the place it had left, nor to the place where =
it was going. Maybe it belonged in that space in between."

Divorce changes childhood.

In married families, children live inside their parents' world.

When divorce occurs, the world splits in two. And it falls to the children =
to make sense of these two worlds, Mrs. Marquardt wrote, even though that i=
s not fair to the children.

I pondered these words as this teenage girl begged her mother to please tra=
nsfer her from one world to the other.

Then I saw Dad. He was in his late 30s, handsome, tanned and fit.

He had three other children with him, two of whom ran over to retrieve Daug=
hter. She motioned them away with exasperation, as she had one more thing t=
o say to her mother.

"I hate this," she hissed. "This is so unfair. And if I have to go with him=
, I am going to be such a brat. I am going to be brattier than he's ever se=
en."

After a tearful goodbye, she snapped her phone shut, stood as tall as her 5=
-foot frame would allow and walked bravely toward what was left of her fami=
ly.

ess and diversity' of the world are we tempted to evaluate our roots. I th=
ought the way I grew up was 'normal' but I think most would probably agree =
that my history and journey have been a bit unusual.

I was the eldest of four, born May 11th, 1955, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, =
Canada, but the majority of my first decade was lived with my missionary pa=
rents in the highlands of Netherlands New Guinea (West Papua), among the Da=
ni, a technologically stone age tribal people. These became my family and =
as the first white child and outsider who ever spoke their language, I was =
granted unusual access into their culture and community. Although at times=
a fierce warring people, steeped in the worship of spirits and even occasi=
onally practicing ritualistic cannibalism, they also provided a deep sense =
of identity that remains an indelible element of my character and person. =
By the time I was flown away to boarding school at age 6, I was in most res=
pects a white Dani.

In the middle of a school year, my family unexpectedly returned to the West=
. My father worked as a Pastor for a number of small churches in Western C=
anada and by the time I graduated, I had already attended thirteen differen=
t schools. I paid my way through Bible College working as a radio disc joc=
key, lifeguard and even a stint in the oil fields of northern Alberta. I s=
pent one summer in the Philippines and another touring with a drama troupe =
before working in Washington D.C. at Fellowship House, an international gue=
st house. Completing my undergraduate degree in Religion, I graduated summ=
a cum laude from Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon. The following=
year, I met and married Kim Warren and for a time worked on staff at a lar=
ge suburban church while attending seminary.

I have owned businesses and worked for others in diverse industries, from i=
nsurance to construction, venture capital companies to telecom, contract wo=
rk to food processing; whatever was needed to help feed and house my growin=
g family. I have always been a writer, whether songs, poetry, short storie=
s or newsletters; never for public consumption but for friends and family. =
While I have extensively written for business, creating web content, busin=
ess plans, white papers etc., The Shack was a story written for my six chil=
dren, with no thought or intention to publish. It is as much a surprise to=
me as to anyone else that I am now an 'author'.

Overall, I am a very simple guy; I have one wife, six kids, two daughter-in=
-laws and two grandkids on the way. I work as a general manager, janitor a=
nd inside sales guy for a friend who owns a small manufacturers rep company=
in Milwaukie, Oregon, and I live in a small rented house in Gresham, Orego=
n, that Kim has made into a marvelous home. My time is spent loving the pe=
ople that are a part of my life. I am not connected, or a part, or a member=
of, or involved inside any sort of organization or movement anywhere. The =
truth is that I doubt anyone would want me. From my perspective that is a =
very positive thing... for both of us. I have lots of incredible friends, =
and now you are one of those. Oh yeah...and I wrote this book.

These are some of the facts of my life, but they don't begin to tell the re=
al story. That would take much more room than is available here. The jour=
ney has been both incredible and unbearable, a desperate grasping after gra=
ce and wholeness. These facts don't tell you about the pain of trying to a=
djust to different cultures, of life losses that were almost too staggering=
to bear, of walking down railroad tracks at night in the middle of winter =
screaming into the windstorm, of living with an underlying volume of shame =
so deep and loud that it constantly threatened any sense of sanity, of drea=
ms not only destroyed but obliterated by personal failure, of hope so tenuo=
us that only the trigger seemed to offer a solution. These few facts also =
do not speak to the potency of love and forgiveness, the arduous road of re=
conciliation, the surprises of grace and community, of transformational hea=
ling and the unexpected emergence of joy. Facts alone might help you under=
stand where a person has been, but often hide who they actually are. [http:=

The Shack will tell you much more about me than a few facts ever could. In=
some ways my life is partly revealed in both characters-Willie and Mack. =
But an author is always more. I hope that someday we can share a cup of co=
ffee, or for me, an extra hot chai tea with soy. If that happens, and if y=
ou want, I will tell you a little more about the bigger story and you can t=
ell me some of yours.

That about sums up my life. For me, everything is about Jesus and Father a=
nd the Holy Spirit, and relationships, and life is an adventure of faith li=
ved one day at a time. Any aspirations, visions and dreams died a long tim=
e ago and I have absolutely no interest in resurrecting them (they would st=
ink by now anyway). I have finally figured out that I have nothing to lose=
by living a life of faith. I know more joy every minute of every day than=
seems appropriate, but I love the wastefulness of my Papa's grace and pres=
ence. For me, everything in my life that matters, is perfect!

Breastfeeding for blokes
Warwick Shanks says it's no breeze being a new dad
 [http://origin.ih.constantcontact.com/fs007/1101938345415/img/422.jpg?a=3D=
1102240955434]

In this day and age, dads are supposed to know all about pregnancy and pare=
nting, and yet many still struggle to find the accurate and relative inform=
ation they need.
So father of four, Warwick Shanks, came up with a funny and informative DVD=
to help bust some common myths, and to break down the mysteries of babies =
and breastfeeding.
Blokes, Babies, Breastfeeding is an Australian first and is a DVD that talk=
s directly to dads about breastfeeding.
"It (the DVD) provides the first-time dad with an insight into the importan=
ce of breastfeeding, tips on supporting his partner and bonding with his ne=
w baby," said Shanks.
According to Shanks, there is an Aussie male mindset that keeps dads distan=
ced and uninformed about breastfeeding.
"Too many men are spectators rather than being helpful supporters," he adde=
d.
The inspiration for the DVD came from attending pre-natal classes, when Sha=
nks said he realised a lot of fathers wanted to talk about breastfeeding an=
d their newborns, but would not listen when females were conducting the cla=
sses.
"Many men are afraid because they don't understand how they can be involved=
," Shanks said. "It is something they can't get their heads around because =
they do not physically breastfeed. Once you start them talking, however, th=
ey want to know a lot more."
Statistics show that mothers are 10 times more likely to breastfeed if thei=
r husbands or partners are supportive.
This DVD encourages men to be mentally and physically supportive.
"Although most men don't know it, they have an important role to play in br=
eastfeeding," said Shanks.

Murray Darling Prayer Pilgrimage
30th Sept - 1 October 2008

The inland areas of Victoria and New South Wales have been in the grip of a=
severe drought for seven years. Some places have suffered longer. This has=
caused unspeakable hardship for our farmers and regional communities. The =
Murray Darling river system is in a very poor state with no water for irrig=
ation for many years now. The situation is extremely serious. A leaked scie=
ntific report has warned of an irreversible ecological disaster unless majo=
r rain falls by October.

Warwick Marsh and Ps Peter Walker with the support of the Australian Prayer=
Network and the Indigenous Prayer Network, Christian groups and individual=
s all over Australia are undertaking a prayer pilgrimage along the Murray R=
iver from the Hume Weir to the Mildura /Wentworth junction of the Murray Da=
rling. The purpose of the Murray Darling Prayer Pilgrimage is to rally peop=
le together to pray for a final end to the drought and for a flood of rain =
to fill the dams and clean out the Murray Darling River System and avert a =
human and ecological disaster.

Warwick Marsh and Ps Peter Walker are asking Christian church leaders, loca=
l dignitaries, members of parliament, state government representatives, and=
member of the public to join with them in special prayer services along th=
e river. They invite others to join them on the journey.

Please email info@ausheart.com.au<mailto:info@ausheart.com.au> if you woul=
d like to receive the schedule of meetings 30 September, commencing at 12 n=
oon at Hume Weir & finishing in Mildura at 7.30 pm, 1 October 2008. All are=
welcome to join us on the hourney.

Dear Fatherhood Foundation

I was dismayed to come across the ad Go Topless for Virgin mobiles on the s=

If you log onto the Virgin website you can get more detail<http://rs6.net/t=

The escalation of risky ads just has to stop. This comes at a time when we'=

e=3D"link" target=3D"_blank">'The Shack'</a> from my good friend Phil Costa=
r. Within a matter of weeks two people had told me that I just had to read =
'The Shack'. It was something I resisted for a while. You see, I do a lot o=
f reading but I don't read fiction. I used to read a lot of fiction books w=
hen I was growing up. I can still remember staying up all night shivering w=
ith excitement while I read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story about Sherlock H=
olmes, 'Hound of the Baskervilles'. However I haven't read a fiction novel =
for over two decades now.<br />&nbsp;<br />However we shouldn't let traditi=
on stop us from doing something different. So I started on the journey of d=
iscovery. The back cover of 'The Shack' sums up the story well.<br />&nbsp;=
<br />Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted =
during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murde=
red is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four year=
s later in the midst of his 'Great Sadness', Mack receives a suspicious not=
e, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.<br /=
>&nbsp;<br />Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintr=
y afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there =
will change Mack's world forever.<br />&nbsp;<br />In a world where religio=
n seems to grow increasingly irrelevant 'The Shack' wrestles with the timel=
ess question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" Th=
e answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as i=
t did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!<br />&nbsp;<br =
/>That last line is quite true. You will want everyone you know to read thi=
s book. I ordered ten copies to give away to friends, I was so profoundly m=
oved.<br />&nbsp;<br />What really got to me was the deeply moving fatherho=
od theme running through the book. From that point alone it is a book worth=
reading.<br />&nbsp;<br />I am not the only person saying that. The Shack =
has already sold 3.6 million copies worldwide. It was recently released in =
Brazil, August 15, and sold out three consecutive print runs and went to th=
e top. The publishers are amazed.&nbsp; It has been number one on the New Y=
ork Times Best Seller List for 17 consecutive weeks and it has been number =
one on Amazon. Currently it is a number three with <a track=3D"on" href=3D"=

<div>If you're a recently divorced dad, be prepared to see a side of your k=
ids you've never seen before. Kids who have been through a divorce often ac=
t in certain ways. As a single dad, you need to know what to watch for-and =
how to respond.<br /><br />Here are some common things to look for, from Ke=
n Parker and Van Jones in their book, Every Other Weekend.<br />First, kids=
sometimes take advantage of two different sets of house rules. "Mom lets m=
e do this at her house!" They may be telling the truth, or pulling a scam. =
The best thing you can do is to help them understand that you're going to s=
tand behind your rules-and the values they represent. Express confidence th=
at they can adjust when they're staying with you.<br /><br />Second, your c=
hild may purposefully break your rules. Correct her in love, but also use t=
he opportunity. She could be expressing anger. Or she maybe testing your lo=
ve and limits. In either case, be firm but gentle. Don't respond in anger, =
instead talk with her about the way she's adjusting, what she's going throu=
gh, and how you can help. Just listening may be all she really needs.<br />=
The third typical response is for a child to complain about someone at the =
other household-his mother or stepfather. You need to be very discerning he=
re.<br /><br />On the one hand, you're probably only hearing one side of th=
e story. You could try calling his mother-not to make accusations, but simp=
ly to communicate what you've heard and gather facts. Often, getting the re=
st of the story will give you a better appreciation for her point of view, =
and you'll be able to back up her actions.<br /><br />On the other hand, wh=
at if your child has a legitimate concern? That phone call to Mom could bet=
ray his trust, and could get him into trouble at home.<br /><br />These sit=
uations illustrate the importance of communicating with your child. Does he=
need you to act on his behalf and look into the situation? Or does he simp=
ly need someone to talk to?<br /><br />For all dads, regular healthy commun=
ication will build a trust level that's going to come in handy when stresse=
s and crises come along. For divorced dads, you've got to work at it twice =
as hard in half the time. May God bless you.</div></div></font></font></fon=

were at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to me=
et a flight. While we waited at the baggage claim area, a flight from Orlan=
do, Fla., arrived.<br />&nbsp;<br />After a short while, a girl, about 14, =
sat next to me on a bench. She pulled out her cell phone and proceeded to o=
ffer an instant snapshot of a child's life after the divorce of her parents=
.<br />&nbsp;<br />"Mom, I do not want to spend the night with Dad," Daught=
er said. "Please can't I come home? I just spent a week with him in Orlando=

he mother was saying, but it was clear she was in no mood to drive to BWI a=
t 11:30 at night to pick up her teenager.<br />&nbsp;<br />But Daughter pre=
ssed on. "Please come get me. He's standing over there, texting someone. Pr=
obably Pam," she said, needling her mom.<br />&nbsp;<br />Moreover, Daughte=

her father tonight and went home to her mother the next day, then just a f=
ew days later, she would "have to go back to Dad's, because it's his weeken=
d."<br />&nbsp;<br />"This is just so unfair," she said.<br />&nbsp;<br />H=
er conversation reminded me of a book written a few years ago by a now-adul=
t child of divorce named Elizabeth Marquardt.<br />&nbsp;<br />"Kicked back=
and forth like a football" could be a metaphor for a child's life after di=
vorce, Mrs. Marquardt wrote in "Between Two Worlds: The Inner Lives of Chil=
dren of Divorce."<br />&nbsp;<br />As a child, Mrs. Marquardt once suggeste=
d to her father that maybe she, too, was a football. In response, her fathe=
r had grown angry, and "he assured me sternly that this image did not apply=
to me. He and my mother loved me, he said."<br />&nbsp;<br />And it was tr=
ue, Mrs. Marquardt wrote, her parents did not kick her. They hugged her pas=
sionately before they passed her to each other.<br />&nbsp;<br />"Still, th=
ere was something about that football," she wrote. "I could see it spinning=
in its arc, flying freely, even beautifully, from the one who launched it =
to the one who caught it. But&nbsp;... it seemed almost too high, too free;=
it belonged neither to the place it had left, nor to the place where it wa=
s going. Maybe it belonged in that space in between."<br />&nbsp;<br />Divo=
rce changes childhood.<br />&nbsp;<br />In married families, children live =
inside their parents' world.<br />&nbsp;<br />When divorce occurs, the worl=
d splits in two. And it falls to the children to make sense of these two wo=
rlds, Mrs. Marquardt wrote, even though that is not fair to the children.<b=
r />&nbsp;<br />I pondered these words as this teenage girl begged her moth=
er to please transfer her from one world to the other.<br />&nbsp;<br />The=
n I saw Dad. He was in his late 30s, handsome, tanned and fit.<br />&nbsp;<=
br />He had three other children with him, two of whom ran over to retrieve=
Daughter. She motioned them away with exasperation, as she had one more th=
ing to say to her mother.<br />&nbsp;<br />"I hate this," she hissed. "This=
is so unfair. And if I have to go with him, I am going to be such a brat. =
I am going to be brattier than he's ever seen."<br />&nbsp;<br />After a te=
arful goodbye, she snapped her phone shut, stood as tall as her 5-foot fram=
e would allow and walked bravely toward what was left of her family.<br />&=

right"><br /></img></font></strong>&nbsp;<br />We live in a world where 'no=
rmal' does not truly exist except as an idea or concept.&nbsp; For each of =
us, where and how we grew up plays a foundational role in our sense of 'nor=
mal', and only when we begin to experience the 'bigness and diversity' of t=
he world are we tempted to evaluate our roots.&nbsp; I thought the way I gr=
ew up was 'normal' but I think most would probably agree that my history an=
d journey have been a bit unusual. <br />&nbsp;<br />I was the eldest of fo=
ur, born May 11th, 1955, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, but the majori=
ty of my first decade was lived with my missionary parents in the highlands=
of Netherlands New Guinea (West Papua), among the Dani, a technologically =
stone age tribal people.&nbsp; These became my family and as the first whit=
e child and outsider who ever spoke their language, I was granted unusual a=
ccess into their culture and community.&nbsp; Although at times a fierce wa=
rring people, steeped in the worship of spirits and even occasionally pract=
icing ritualistic cannibalism, they also provided a deep sense of identity =
that remains an indelible element of my character and person.&nbsp; By the =
time I was flown away to boarding school at age 6, I was in most respects a=
 white Dani.&nbsp;&nbsp; <br />&nbsp;<br />In the middle of a school year, =
my family unexpectedly returned to the West.&nbsp; My father worked as a Pa=
stor for a number of small churches in Western Canada and by the time I gra=
duated, I had already attended thirteen different schools.&nbsp; I paid my =
way through Bible College working as a radio disc jockey, lifeguard and eve=
n a stint in the oil fields of northern Alberta.&nbsp; I spent one summer i=
n the Philippines and another touring with a drama troupe before working in=
Washington D.C. at Fellowship House, an international guest house.&nbsp; C=
ompleting my undergraduate degree in Religion, I graduated summa cum laude =
from Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon.&nbsp; The following year, =
I met and married Kim Warren and for a time worked on staff at a large subu=
rban church while attending seminary. <br />&nbsp;<br />I have owned busine=
sses and worked for others in diverse industries, from insurance to constru=
ction, venture capital companies to telecom, contract work to food processi=
ng; whatever was needed to help feed and house my growing family.&nbsp; I h=
ave always been a writer, whether songs, poetry, short stories or newslette=
rs; never for public consumption but for friends and family.&nbsp; While I =
have extensively written for business, creating web content, business plans=
, white papers etc., The Shack was a story written for my six children, wit=
h no thought or intention to publish.&nbsp; It is as much a surprise to me =
as to anyone else that I am now an 'author'. <br />&nbsp;<br />Overall, I a=
m a very simple guy; I have one wife, six kids, two daughter-in-laws and tw=
o grandkids on the way.&nbsp; I work as a general manager, janitor and insi=
de sales guy for a friend who owns a small manufacturers rep company in Mil=
waukie, Oregon, and I live in a small rented house in Gresham, Oregon, that=
Kim has made into a marvelous home.&nbsp; My time is spent loving the peop=
le that are a part of my life. I am not connected, or a part, or a member o=
f, or involved inside any sort of organization or movement anywhere. The tr=
uth is that I doubt anyone would want me.&nbsp; From my perspective that is=
a very positive thing...&nbsp; for both of us. I have lots of incredible f=
riends, and now you are one of those. Oh yeah...and I wrote this book.&nbsp=
; <br />&nbsp;<br />These are some of the facts of my life, but they don't =
begin to tell the real story.&nbsp; That would take much more room than is =
available here.&nbsp; The journey has been both incredible and unbearable, =
a desperate grasping after grace and wholeness.&nbsp; These facts don't tel=
l you about the pain of trying to adjust to different cultures, of life los=
ses that were almost too staggering to bear, of walking down railroad track=
s at night in the middle of winter screaming into the windstorm, of living =
with an underlying volume of shame so deep and loud that it constantly thre=
atened any sense of sanity, of dreams not only destroyed but obliterated by=
personal failure, of hope so tenuous that only the trigger seemed to offer=
a solution.&nbsp; These few facts also do not speak to the potency of love=
and forgiveness, the arduous road of reconciliation, the surprises of grac=
e and community, of transformational healing and the unexpected emergence o=
f joy.&nbsp; Facts alone might help you understand where a person has been,=
but often hide who they actually are. <img name=3D"ACCOUNT.IMAGE.420" bord=

lign=3D"right"><br />&nbsp;<br />The Shack will tell you much more about me=
than a few facts ever could.&nbsp; In some ways my life is partly revealed=
in both characters-Willie and Mack.&nbsp; But an author is always more.&nb=
sp; I hope that someday we can share a cup of coffee, or for me, an extra h=
ot chai tea with soy.&nbsp; If that happens, and if you want, I will tell y=
ou a little more about the bigger story and you can tell me some of yours.<=
br />&nbsp;<br />That about sums up my life.&nbsp; For me, everything is ab=
out Jesus and Father and the Holy Spirit, and relationships, and life is an=
adventure of faith lived one day at a time.&nbsp; Any aspirations, visions=
and dreams died a long time ago and I have absolutely no interest in resur=
recting them (they would stink by now anyway).&nbsp; I have finally figured=
out that I have nothing to lose by living a life of faith.&nbsp; I know mo=
re joy every minute of every day than seems appropriate, but I love the was=
tefulness of my Papa's grace and presence.&nbsp; For me, everything in my l=

y and informative DVD to help bust some common myths, and to break down the=
mysteries of babies and breastfeeding. <br />Blokes, Babies, Breastfeeding=
is an Australian first and is a DVD that talks directly to dads about brea=
stfeeding.<br />"It (the DVD) provides the first-time dad with an insight i=
nto the importance of breastfeeding, tips on supporting his partner and bon=
ding with his new baby," said Shanks.<br />According to Shanks, there is an=
Aussie male mindset that keeps dads distanced and uninformed about breastf=
eeding.<br />"Too many men are spectators rather than being helpful support=
ers," he added.<br />The inspiration for the DVD came from attending pre-na=
tal classes, when Shanks said he realised a lot of fathers wanted to talk a=
bout breastfeeding and their newborns, but would not listen when females we=
re conducting the classes.<br />"Many men are afraid because they don't und=
erstand how they can be involved," Shanks said. "It is something they can't=
get their heads around because they do not physically breastfeed. Once you=
start them talking, however, they want to know a lot more."<br />Statistic=
s show that mothers are 10 times more likely to breastfeed if their husband=
s or partners are supportive. <br />This DVD encourages men to be mentally =
and physically supportive.<br />"Although most men don't know it, they have=
an important role to play in breastfeeding," said Shanks.<br />To purchase=
